But powerful enemies hunt her across the kingdom while she searches in vain for her lost friends. At her side is Jordel, a Mystic who seems to know more about Loren than she would wish—and something about her powerful dagger. But Loren has much to learn about Jordel's brethren, and not all of it is good. DARK TIDINGS SPREAD THROUGH THE NINE LANDS Loren wishes only to find her friends and evade the king’s law. But she will have to decide whether to flee Underrealm's problems, or stand and fight them—and on that decision may rest the fate of all who dwell in the nine lands. "People should check out Garrett, he is an excellent vlogger and writer." — Hank Green "An intriguing tale, well presented [with] some intense encounters, graphically described." — R. Nicholson, top reviewer "Robinson is a skilled author, particularly when creating interesting female characters. He has oodles of talent and is destined for great things." — Shen Hart, TheReviewHart.com Book 2 of the Nightblade Epic DOWNLOAD THE FANTASY ADVENTURE NOW.

Mystic A Book of Underrealm The Nightblade Epic Volume 2 Garrett Robinson 9781629550633 Books

The author is a good writer as far as grammar and telling the story, but there are a few issues that kept me from enjoying it. I was hoping that the series would improve but that is not the case.

1. Believability of the main character
- Constant bad decisions, I think there are about 2 good decisions in 2 books of the series?
- No mentor figure other than a convenient tinker that used to visit her village, and somehow she overcame two parents that mis-treated her and no schooling or training of any kind

2. Constant fleeing for both books with no knowledge gained by the characters, no skills learned (other than cutting a purse string which is never used)
- There is no mentor figure or skills learned by the main characters.

3. May have a main plot after 2 books?
- There isn't really any plot for the first two books other than running from danger to danger
- Finally after two books we have a hint of what the main plot might be.

4. Semi-old English
- Inconsistent usage of "Old English" sounding phrases.

Mystic A Book of Underrealm The Nightblade Epic Volume 2 Garrett Robinson 9781629550633 Books Reviews

The second book of the Nightblade Epic, Mystic furthers the tale of Loren (the girl who wishes to become the world's greatest thief, Nightblade) and her companions. Very many awesome things happen in this book, but I do not write spoilers in my reviews... so if you want to know, you'll have to read.

I will say this, however Loren's problems start piling up as she tries to figure out who to trust in this world outside of her forest town. Not everyone is what they seem to be or what they says they are.

A smartly-written second installment in a series I very much anticipate reading!
My thoughts after reading Book I (Nightblade)-Interesting characters and a plot that could have gone many different directions. I believed that the story line would improve and be defined in next book. Well, I was wrong. Character decisions were nonsensical. The plot went from one escape to another. The dialogue was absurd. I am being kind by giving this 2 stars.
Story is caught in a theme of a girl who was abused but doesn’t believe anyone shook take life. Going through arduous times of being chased, attacked, people being killed around her she unrealistically stays true to a cause that is not realistic for a person in that world. The theme feels forced on the story in such a way that it doesn’t fit.
I enjoyed this second installment of The Nightblade Epic. Robinson has a way of giving you just enough of information satisfy some of your questions but still leave you with the feeling of anticipation of what's to come. I especially enjoyed the characters Gem and Annis (and the introduction of one of the creatures of the land!!). However, there was one thing I wasn't crazy about. While I do like Loren's character, there is one thing about her that I did tend to find a bit frustrating at times and that is her switching between Xain and Jordel. That being said, I am hopeful that this is a part of Loren's growth in this series and look forward to the next installment!
The story line started with some promising plot lines. Unfortunately they evolved into incredulous situations that seemed designed to increase the word count rather than make a meaningful contribution to the tale. Promises are broken by the main characters on numerous occasions to the point that you know they are meaningless. I was soon rolling my eyes when one appeared in the story. Any attempt at suspense is ignored because you soon learn that the main characters will prevail through some lame means. My decision to explode this series one book at a time looks like a wise choice.
Mystic is an EXCELLENT follow-up to Nightblade (see my review). In Mystic, the reader gets to know more about the main characters (Loren and Xain in particular), but Robinson does a wonderful job of not giving *everything* away. As in Nightblade, the action in Mystic never really lets up. The main characters are constantly striving towards specific goals, thus making the reading experience very exciting and suspenseful. I finished Mystic over the course of only three days I couldn't put it down! Also, in Mystic, the intrigue factor is considerably "upped." It will be interesting to see how some of the subplots Robinson introduces in Mystic resolve themselves in the later books. I very much look forward to the next installment in The Nightblade Series! One thing I would love to see in the next book is a map of the Nine Kingdoms. As I said in my review of Nightblade, I think that Robinson's writing is on par with many of the fantasy novels that are on the bestseller lists.
I bought the first book based on the original premise of a lone thief in training against the world. I was excited to see where it might go and how she would fail or triumph. Having just finished Book 2, I do not plan on reading any further. The story and main character through the course of the first two books have both basically been hijacked by world concerns and conspiracies that don't really fit with where the story should have gone. I wanted to read a story about an aspiring thief, what you get is kingdom spanning plots that should really have nothing to do with the main character. Also, Loren's loyalties are constantly shifting which makes it difficult to really believe in where she's headed at any one time. The world building is somewhat haphazard and bare boned, not on a par with Robert Jordan or Tad Williams. If you're looking for a really great series that actually deals with the main character learning the craft of being a thief, I would highly recommend 'The Night Angel Trilogy' by Brent Weeks.
